Hello Everyone,
Welcome to my blog post….I wanted to tell you a little about me and where my passion for food, cooking and taking care of seniors began!
My love of food started as a result of growing up on a cattle farm, working in the fields with my family, canning our fruits and vegetables and cooking dinner with my mom. I started cooking when I was 6 years of age and remember burning myself while frying pork chops by myself as my parents were working in the field. We always celebrated family and friends with home baking, coffee and a meal even if they just dropped by to say hello! Coming from a European family, we always had food as the focal point of every event.
Fast forward to Western University/Brescia College, I was introduced to the nutritional science and health promoting aspects of food. It was there that I realized that growing up on a farm where we grew tomatoes for Campbell Soup Company, cucumbers for Bick’s Pickles and raising cattle...I believe I was destined to love and work with food. I realized I did not fit into the lab-coat wearing dietitian profession. I was more interested in management, education, menu development and developing food recipes.
My past experiences in a variety of settings including long term care, retirement living and the food-service industry built my skills in developing training of healthcare workers, counseling, food service resources and all aspects of the food service operation. I took the leap into consulting about 4 years ago and haven’t looked back.
Today, a big part of my day is spent developing large quantity recipes, writing policies and procedures, training in person, developing resources, and writing nutrition related blogs.
I play in our greenhouse, grow my own garden and preserve and dry a variety of foods; my happy place is in the kitchen and cooking for family and friends. I am passionate about ensuring that all people, especially seniors are well nourished and enjoy the food they love & deserve to eat every day.
Bon Appetit !
